Having a large family means that a lot of time can be spent prepping and serving food. When it comes to football season, I want to be in there with my family, not up and down on my feet. I have created a tradition that my family loves.
Since we have lots of smaller children, you won’t find us tailgating, but you will find us homegating. This is where you get ready for the game at home! You spend some time enjoying food and drinks with friends and family before the big football game. Only you’re at home!
It’s so much fun for us because the kids love being around us and enjoying time together as a family.
With this homegating tradition, I’ve also created a Grab-n-Go homegating table. Those commercials aren’t very long, so we needed a grab-n-go table so we are sure to not miss any of the game while refilling our plates.
I serve foods that are quick to load and re-load because we want to get our snacks and get right to the game.
We Watch Football with Dr. Pepper
Of course, we have our favorite foods on our homegating table, but we also have our favorite drink, which is Dr Pepper®. First of all, Dr Pepper was around when I was a kid! It’s even been a part of college football for over 25 years, which is a really long time.
I’ve been serving Dr Pepper on football days for as long as I can remember. You can count on Dr Pepper to have 23 flavors, it’s rich, indulgent, and a one of a kind flavor. The official drink of college football fans is Dr Pepper.
The kids really love that during football season Dr Pepper makes all their cans look like a football. We generally get them from Basha’s since it’s not far from our house and they have a decent selection of flavors. Find out more information on their website. Right now you can also take advantage of their coupon deal where you can save $1.50 when you buy (1) one Dr Pepper 7.5 oz mini-can or 6pk .5L and a Bashas’ ready-to-serve DELI item. Load the offer you to your loyalty card to redeem.
How to Create a Grab-n-Go Homegating Table
Now that I’ve told you about our grab-n-go homegating table, you’re probably wondering how you can go about creating this idea in your home!
#1. Pick any day you’re going to be watching football – When it comes to football, you just can’t go wrong! The easiest way to start creating your own grab-n-go homegating table is to pick a day.
#2. Choose which table you’ll use – You don’t need to go out and buy a table, any table will do. We use our kitchen table because it’s in a central location and everyone can find it! Go all out here and decorate football themed! We used our Penalty Flags from my sons’ football themed birthday party.
#3. Pick your favorite easy snacks and put them on the table – Now, this table idea is supposed to be easy. Don’t go spending hours and hours making food. Grab those easy snacks and put them on the table. Pick your favorite finger foods, appetizers or deli sandwiches and fill your table to your liking. Have friends or family bring their favorite as well. Simple dessert options could be our football cupcakes.
#4. Don’t forget to put out Dr Pepper – Remember to grab the coupon on your Bashas loyalty card to save on deli selections and Dr Pepper. You can load the coupon to your cards from their website.
Perhaps the most important part of the whole grab-n-go homegating idea is the fact that we are all together and in the comfort of our own home. Enjoying family and friends company and let’s not forget, we will probably be in pajamas.
