My kids have chores. We do not pay them to do chores as their chores are simply their responsibility and contribution to living here. Outside of the regular chores, we do offer incentives for going above the expectation. This leads me to this wonderful craft (reward system) we have in place. It works wonders and there is no arguing when they don’t get a reward.
Here is how it works. At any given time when my kids are “in their own element” just doing their own thing, they say or do something that really warms my heart I holler at them. Of course, they probably think they are in trouble but I explain to them what I heard or saw them do and tell them how proud of them I am for it. They get to pull a stick from the “You were caught being good” bucket. Our rewards are small but so are our kids at the moment. When they get older the rewards will be bigger.

How to make Reward System for Kids Craft
Spray paint your small coffee canister black. Make sure to use the spray paint only in a well-ventilated area.
On 12 multi-colored popsicle sticks, write the following rewards (or create your own rewards):
- $.50
- $.75
- $1.00
- $1.25
- $1.50
- $2
- No chore day
- You pick dinner
- Movie Night
- Your Choice
- Game Night
- Your Choice
Using a pair of scissors or a box cutter, make 6 small slits in the lid of your coffee canister once it has dried. Make the slits just big enough for the popsicle sticks to snugly fit through.
Fill the coffee canister up with some rice or sand. This will make the container sturdier, and will also keep the popsicle sticks from slipping inside.
Place the lid on the canister, and put 6 of the popsicle stick rewards into the slots on the top. Make sure you push the sticks in until the rewards are no longer showing on the outside of the canister.
Stick the You got caught being good printable label on the front of your canister. Swap out reward sticks as needed, with the extra set of popsicle sticks.
