Recently, my kids have really been into doing various discovery activities. I got the idea for this DIY Treasure Rocks Activity to help their curiosity. I have a lot of fun activities planned for us this summer, but this has to be one of the most fun. You’ll love how inexpensive this activity is too. A lot of the ingredients are probably something you have right in your own cabinets.

As you know, when it rains and the kids are bored, I love to have different crafts and activities for them on hand. With having four kids and a variety of ages, it’s important to have something that everyone can do. Have fun watching the kids dig into their treasure rocks. You can also dig in! This DIY Treasure Rocks Activity is going to be something your kids talk about for years to come!

What You Need

 1 box Baking Soda

1 Bottle White Vinegar

Food Coloring, assort. colors

Little Treasures, (toy rings, toy gold pieces, etc.)

Squeeze Bottle

How to make Treasure Rocks

 You'll love how inexpensive this activity. Have fun watching the kids dig into their treasure rocks. Small 4 item supply list and you're ready to go!

Put about 1/3 cup baking soda in a small bowl.

Add about 4 teaspoons vinegar and 3-4 drops of food coloring and mix together well with the soda. It should be a very thick paste consistency that you can roll in a ball.

Take one of the treasures, put it into the baking soda mix, and roll that into a ball. Make sure the treasure is hidden inside the ball.

Repeat steps 1-3 until you make as many treasure rocks that you want.

Set the treasure rocks on a baking sheet and let dry for 24-48 hours. They will dry faster if you set them out in the sun.

Put a treasure rock into a dish and spray or pour vinegar slowly over it and watch it foam up as the baking soda starts to melt. Kids will love the little treasure they find inside!

    What a super fun activity for the summer! Reminds me of those bath bombs they have with jewelry inside. Everyone loves to find a fun treasure!

    Those treasure rocks are so cool! I love that the kids can do this and learn while having fun. I think it’s something that they’ll enjoy so much. The little surprises inside are definitely a great idea!

    This would be a nice activity for the little ones. I will recommend this to my friend who is a kindergarten teacher. She could add this to her lesson/activity plan for her little students this school year.

    This would make a nice game for a kid’s birthday party. The kids get to keep the tokens hidden in each treasure rock. I will suggest this to my cousin. Her daughter will be turning 5 this month.
