What to clean with this disinfectant?

I clean all high touch surfaces with it – doorknobs and light switches. I also use it in my kitchen and bathroom.

How to make my own disinfectant?

This is the exact recipe that I use to make my own disinfectant. According to guidance from the CDC 70% or higher isopropyl alcohol kills germs on surfaces.

What essential oils can I use in this spray?

For this recipe I used tea tree essential oil, I love the fresh smell. However you can use your favorite essential oil.

  • eucalyptus
  • cinnamon
  • rosemary
  • peppermint
  • bergamot
  • lemon

What if I can’t find rubbing alcohol?

I prefer rubbing alcohol for this disinfecting spray, but if you can’t find it you can subsitute a  drinkable, grain alcohol (aka ethyl alcohol) like Everclear or Vodka.  You will want to look at the proof and cut that number in half – 140 proof alcohol would equal the 70% minimum of alcohol.

I believe that the 70% Alcohol strength is diluted when you add the hydrogen peroxide and essential oil, bringing the alcohol strength below the CDC recommendation of 70% strength. I would like a formulation recipe which uses the same ingredients in the proper ratio in order to keep the strength at 70% . Perhaps I can use a higher strength alcohol like 90-99% strength and then diluting it with the other ingredients listed. But I’m not sure how to calculate that…
