How to make Candy Cane Sugar Cookies
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the egg and vanilla until combined.
Beat in the flour and salt until well combined, and then split the dough into two equal portions.
Color one half the dough red. Make sure to get enough food dye, otherwise, your dough will look pink. Remember if you’re using a liquid food dye, if you use too much, it will change the consistency of your dough.
Chill the dough in your refrigerator for about an hour at minimum, or leave it overnight if you need to.
Pinch off a small piece of dough of each color, about 2 tablespoons each. Roll each piece into a rope and lay them against each other.
Twist them together carefully and bend them at the top so you have a candy cane shape. If your ropes start to crack as you are twisting them together, just press them back together with your fingers. They will hold together just fine once they’ve been baked.
Sprinkle the Candy Cane Sugar Cookies with both colors of sugar and bake for 8-9 minutes. Remove and let cool completely before serving.
