This may just be the best past time for this summer. Summer Sidewalk Chalk Paint is the easiest DIY for kids and not to mention the clean up is so simple as well. Just a few simple ingredients that you probably have in the pantry already will whip up hours of fun for kids of all ages. Heck, even I played with it with my kids.

One thing you may need to remember however is if the kids will be outside for a long period of time you need to use a good sunscreen. We make our own here so we always have it on hand. So let me show you how we make our sidewalk chalk and you can get to playing with your kids as well.

Food Coloring, misc. colors

8 small plastic cups

Paintbrushes

How to make Summer Sidewalk Chalk Paint

In a mixing bowl, combine the water and cornstarch and stir until the cornstarch dissolves and it is smooth. It will be kind of runny.

Divide the mixture evenly into the small plastic cups. Use the food coloring to make a different color paint in each cup.

Use paintbrushes to paint pictures on the sidewalk or driveway outside. The mixture is thinner and runnier than regular paint, but just paint your pictures like you would with any other paint. The paint dries quickly, and it will resemble sidewalk chalk. The colors are very bright once they dry! It washes off very easily with rain or the hose.

This is so much fun to use and a nice change from traditional sidewalk chalk. Happy Painting!
